Foundation subjects
Our Core Curriculum is further enhanced by our well thought out individual foundation subjects which match the National Curriculum, Development Matters and our own Ocker Hill context. Each subject is mapped out individually and seizes every opportunity to address disadvantage and promote equality, filling in gaps from individual and groups of pupil’s backgrounds, including cultural capital. Our Foundation Subjects also demonstrate our commitment to developing a love of learning to give you wings. Our intent for our curriculum flows through each subject area with a clear focus upon language development, love and confidence in reading, exceptional use of assessment for learning, mastery in mathematics and emotional wellbeing. Our whole school well embedded pedagogy with the use of our bespoke Learning Characters impacts effectively upon every subject area.
The Skills Overviews and Curriculum Plans demonstrate clear progression from Nursery up to Year 2 in every subject. Lessons encourage children to revisit, retrieve, recall and apply previously learned skills and knowledge to different contexts. Sequences of lessons are carefully considered to build on components of knowledge that lead to conceptual understanding.
